A minha família é ótima ! Aqui estão eles :

My family's great! Here they are:

   A Aubrey é a minha irmã do meio, tem 19 anos; depois ao lado direito o meu pai, o Alan; em baixo o Eli (Elijah), que tem 11 anos; ao lado do pai é a mãe, a Bridget e por fim a Alex, a minha irmã mais velha, que tem 21 anos !

  Aubrey is my middle sister, she's 19; on her right side is my dad, Alan; the little kid below is my brother Eli (Elijah), and he's 11; next to my dad, is my mom, Bridget, and last but not least, Alex, my older sister, who's 21!

   Eles são super simpáticos e divertidos, adoram música (o que é mesmo bom para mim!!), adoram fazer caminhadas, jogar cartas e jogos de tabuleiro e isso!

Portanto, eles são mesmo pessoas da quinta ! Ou seja, vivemos numa quinta , temos galinhas, galos e cabras e uma pequena horta com vegetais !

A minha casa não é muito grande , mas é super acolhedora , o que é ótimo ! A minha escola fica a uns 10 min de casa , mas não há nenhum autocarro que me leve até lá, por isso tenho que ir de carro..

  They are super nice and fun, they love music (which is great for me!!), the love to walk, play cards, play board games and stuff!

I can say they are really farm people! We live in a farm, we have chickens, roosters and some little goats, and a tiny vegetable garden!

  My house isn't huge, but is super cosy, which I love it! My school is about 10 min away from home, but there is no school bus who goes by my house, so I need to drive with Bridget!

    A única coisa menos boa é que eu estou completamente no meio do nada e nem sequer tenho tv por cabo , então não posso ver aquelas séries mesmo giras !

  The only not so good thing is that I'm in the middle of nowhere, and I don't have cable TV, so I can't whatch all of those cool series!

   Mas tenho-me divertido imenso com eles ! Já fiz conheci a família praticamente toda , já comi quase todos os tipos de comida americana (menos hambugers!), já fiz uma bonfire (fogueira) e assámos marshmallows e contámos histórias de terror, já conheci muitos amigos e amigas dos meus irmãos, já fui a uma wedding reception, ou seja, o filho da Stacy (minha conselheira do AFS) casou-se na Califórnia e como muita gente não pôde ir porque é muito longe fizeram uma mini festa aqui , e o pastor da igreja , o David , já me convidou para tocar piano de duas em duas semanas , com o grupo de canto da Bridget ! Estou mesmo contente , mas nervosa ao mesmo tempo !

   No domingo , depois da missa e da minha aula de Bible Study, fomos almoçar a casa dos meus avós maternos e depois seguimos viagem até Manchester , no norte do Iowa , para irmos visitar os pais do Alan ! Foi divertido , e no dia seguinte fomos ao Wisconsin !! Almoçamos em Pier Du Chien (Acho que é assim que se escreve) e depois fomos a um parque natural muito bonito no Iowa! depois mostro as fotografias quando as tiver !

  But I've been having lots of fun with them! I basically already met the whole family, I've eaten all sort of american food (except hamburgers!), I've had a bonfire, we rosted marshmallows and talked about horror stories. I've also met a lot of my sisters' friends, I've been to a wedding reception: Stacy's son (she's my AFS counselour) got married in California, and since a lot of people from Iowa couldn't make it because it's too far, they had a tiny party here! David, the church's pastor invited me to play piano for them with Bridget's choir group! I'm excited about that, but also a little nervous.

  Sunday, after church and my Study bible class, we went to my grandma's for lunch and then we headed out to Manchester (North of Iowa), to visit Alan's parents! It was a lot of fun, and the day after we went to Wisconsin! We had lunch in Pier Du Chien and then we went to a beautiful natural park in Iowa. I'll post the pictures later!

Anyway , it's been really good ! I'm having lots of fun ! But I also miss my family and friends in Portugal :D

Welcome to the US

Bem , eu não venho aqui há uns tempos, tenho andado super ocupada e super stressada com isto tudo dos USA!

Mas finalmente já cá estou !

No dia 8 de Agosto por volta das 4 da manhã já estava eu no Aeroporto de Lisboa, juntamente com os meus amigos, para embarcarmos no avião ! Mas, como sempre na vida, EU tive alguns contratempos...
Primeiro, nos tínhamos que fazer uma escala : Lisboa-Frankfurt-Chicago. E os nossos check-in já estavam todos tratados, menos o meu! ou seja , eu era a única que tinha que ir fazer o check-in em frankfurt ! Depois, quando eu ia despachar a mala, a senhora queria que eu pagasse 165€ porque eu tinha 6kg a mais na mala! omgggg ! então la tive eu que tirar milhões de coisas da mala e mesmo assim, fiquei com 2 kg a mais! depois, com este stress todo, PERDI O MEU TELEMOVEL ! (mas qnd cheguei à minha nova casa encontrei-o dentro da mala grande, que alivio!).

E de resto, correu tudo bem na viagem . E frankfurt conhecemos uma rapariga que vem da Latvia (não sei como se diz em português lool) e ela foi connosco na viagem! a única chatice é que estávamos todos em lugares separados no avião!

Depois chegámos a Chicago e fomos para um hotel num autocarro, juntamente com os AFS'ers de França! bastante simpáticos! Chegámos ao hotel por volta das 17h e quando lá chegámos disseram: "hora de jantar! E depois vão para o vosso estado de autocarro". nós ficámos chocadíssimos! jantar às cinco da tarde ?! a essa hora estamos nós a chegar a casa !!

Mas pronto, lá jantámos uma típica comida americana : massinhas com molho de tomate (bastante falso) e umas almôndegas do tamanho da minha bochecha (ou maiores) e, estranhamente, tinham salada! e pronto, depois do jantar eu, a Rita e a Baeta (a rapariga da Latvia) fomos para o nosso autocarro para o Iowa! mais umas seis horinhas de viagem, que agradável! eu fui a dormir praticamente a viagem toda!

Então, quando chegámos a Des Moines (capital de estado) fomos separados e fomos dormir para o Hotel! No dia seguinta acordámos e fomos tomar o pequeno almoço: PIZZA ! ok, chegámos mesmo aos Estados Unidos, pensei eu ... A pizza tinha salsicha e ovos mexidos ou la o que era, mas até que nem era má de todo. Depois durante o dia fizemos um campo de orientação e almoçámos, até que às duas da tarde, quando menos esperava a minha família veio-me buscar!

Well, I haven't been here in a while, I've been super busy and stressed with all of this moving to the US thing!

But I am finally here!

August 8th,  around 4am I was already at the airport of Lisbon, along with my AFS friends, all ready to departure! But, as is usual for me in life, I had a few setbacks...
Firstly, our flight wasn't direct: Lisbon-Frankfurt-Chicago. And all of the check-ins were already taken care of, but mine! So I was the only one who had to check-in my things in Frankfurt too. Later on, when I was about to "get rid off" my bag, the airport lady wanted me to pay 165€ due to the extra 6Kg my bag was weighing! omggg! So there I was, in the middle of the aiport, with my suitcase open and taking random things out of it, and I still had 2 extra Kg! And due to all of this stress, I LOST MY PHONE ! (but then I got to my new home and was unpackingm I found it, what a relief!).

But then it all went well. In Frankfurt we met this girl from Latvia, and she joined us! She as also from AFS. The only bummer was that we all had seperate sits on the flight.

When we finally arrived in Chicago, we met the AFS'ers from France and we all rode a bus to a Hotel! They were pretty fun! We got to the hotel around 5pm, and qhen we got there the AFS volunteers said: "It's dinner time! And after dinner you'll all leave to your respectively states!". We were shocked! Dinner at 5pm?! What in the world?! That is usually the time when I get home!

We had a tipical american food for dinner: pasta with tomato souce (super concentrated) and meatballs of the size of my cheek (or bigger) and, strangely, they had salad! After dinner, Rita, Beate (the girl from Latvia) and I entered the bus to Iowa! 6 more hours in a car, how pleasent! I may have slept the whole trip.

And then we finally got the Des Moines! They splited us up, and we went to sleep to a Youth hostel. Next day, we woke up and we went downstairs to have breakfast: PIZZA! Ok, we're really in America... It was called breakfast pizza, it had sausage and scrambled eggs or something, but it wasn't that bad. during the day we had an orientation camp and we had lucnh, and then, around 2pm, when I was least expecting, my family went pick me up!!

Iowa here I go !

Estou super contente ! Ontem há hora de almoço ligaram-me do AFS a dizer que eu vou partir oficialmente no dia 8 de Agosto e que o processo da minha família já está completo !
Vou ter que estar no aeroporto as 03:50 da manhã e o meu voo é às 06:50 da manhã , vou fazer escala em Frankfurt, na Alemanha (oh pa , eu pensava que ia ser em Londres), onde chego às 10:55 (e é mais uma hora que Portugal, ou seja, são 3 horitas de voo), depois parto às 12:45 e chego a Chicago Às 14:55, mais umas 9 horitas de avião yeeey !

Eu vou ficar em Runnells, no Iowa!

Runnells é uma pequena cidade perto de Des Moines, a capital do Iowa. Não se pode considerar bem uma pequena cidade, é mais no campo e tem cerca de 2200 habitantes (Se pesquisarem Runnells no google, só aparece fotografias de cemitérios, velhos e campos...). Neva durante 5/6 meses (wohoo e eu vou estar lá 11!) mas no verão as temperaturas atingem cerca dos 37ºC.

As minhas aulinhas começam no dia 20 de Agosto (que secaaaa , faltam 19dias) e começam todos os dias às 7:50 da manhã ! Mas pelo lado positivo, tenho imensas vezes mini-férias durante o ano todo e acabo as aulas dia 22 de Maio ! A minha escola é LINDAAAAA:

I'm super happy! Yesterday, while I was having lunch, I got a call from AFS saying I'm oficially leaving August 8th and that my family's process is finally completed! I'll have to be at the airport at 3:50am and my flight leaves at 6:50am, I'll have to stop in Frankfurt, germany (I was so hopping it's be London), where I arrive at 10:55am (1 hour ahead of Portugal, so it's a 3-hour-flight), and then I leave again at 12:45pm and arrive in Chicago at 2:55pm, a 9-hour-flight yeeey!

I'll be staying in Runnells, Iowa!

Runnells is a small town next to Des Moines, the capital of Iowa. It's a rural area, having about 2200 habitants (If you google Runnells, it only shows pictures of grave yards, old people, fields...). it snows for 5/6 months (wohoo and I'm gonna be there 11 months!) but during summer it can get up to 37ºC.

My school starts August 20th (aw man, only have 19 days left) and they start at 7:50am everyday! Looking on the bright side, I'll have a lot of days off during the whole year and I finish school on May 22nd! And my school is AWESOMEEE:
